Carinda van Tonder
Education and Training
Carinda van Tonder is an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist based in Cape Town. She obtained her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology (Cum Laude) from The University of Johannesburg. She then completed her internship at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital and The Tara H Moross Centre in Johannesburg. Her Community Service was completed at Stikland Psychiatric Hospital in the Western Cape. She is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Carinda mainly uses a Psychodynamic approach believing that early childhood experiences impact all aspects of life. Empathically exploring these dynamics with her patients helps to provide insight into current experiences and behaviours. She focuses on providing a safe, non-judgmental space where her patients can explore any difficulties they may be having without fear. Sharing in their hardships and joys. She believes that the therapeutic relationship is crucial to allow for trust and a possibility for change. She is also trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Supportive Therapy.
